About

My name is Carmen Tang (surname pronounced as [tæŋ], in written Chinese: 鄧健敏). I am a PhD student in Linguistics at The University of Maryland, College Park. I am working with Colin Phillips, Naomi Feldman, and Kate Mooney, trying to understand the intersection of psycholinguistics, phonology, and cognitive (neuro)science.

My research interests are related to mechanisms of speech processing and their interaction with higher-order cognition. How does the grammar interact with phonology and the lexicon? How does the brain encode sound patterns? By approaching these questions, I aim to understand how speech information is encoded and how the process of encoding is modulated by attention.

I am also interested in how language interacts with other cognitive domains, like music cognition.
